A new study by the Sisters of Carmel found the top searched religious figure in each state. Google Trends shows Pope Francis as America’s most-searched religious figure, claiming top interest in states from Connecticut and Delaware to Missouri and Wyoming. His widespread appeal outpaces every other spiritual leader on the map.

But the data also reveals a rich mix of faith traditions across the country. Moses leads searches in Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and West Virginia, while Mother Teresa inspires Kansas, Nebraska, and North Dakota. The Buddha draws attention in Hawaii and Nevada, and Joan of Arc stands out in Louisiana and Ohio.

Other favorites include Baháʼu’lláh, who tops searches in Arizona, Maryland, Oregon, and Tennessee, and figures like Jesus Christ, Abraham, and John Calvin each claiming pockets of popularity.

Together, these results highlight the nation’s spiritual diversity, showing how Americans explore figures spanning ancient prophets, modern leaders, and global faith traditions—proof that curiosity about religion remains vibrant and far-reaching.
