House cleaning can feel like a treat. That is until you see the bill..
A new analysis of Thumbtack listings across the U.S. found Americans pay about $176 per visit, or $2,117 a year if they book monthly. But costs swing widely by state.
Most Expensive
- Hawaii – $227.85/visit
- New York – $212.28
- California – $208.85
- Washington – $205.20
- Michigan – $199.74
Coastal hotspots like Hawaii, New York, and California are no surprise, but Michigan’s high labor rates and winter cleanups help it crack the top five.
Least Expensive
- South Dakota – $143.65/visit
- Arkansas – $144.09
- Wyoming – $150.83
- Mississippi – $150.97
- Utah – $151.60
Southern states dominate the budget-friendly end, thanks to lower living costs and competitive markets.
Bottom line: From Hawaii’s premium pricing to South Dakota’s bargains, your ZIP code could add, or shave, thousands off a lifetime of tidy living.
